September 2007

11 September Douglas Williamson of Bibendum on Bordeaux wines Edinburgh

18 September Stratford's Wines presenting the wines of Anakena, Chile Glasgow
Stephen Running is a Diploma graduate of the Cape Wine School and is a Master of Wine student. He has a vast knowledge of the wines of South Africa and plans to show a number of the better-quality wines that are readily available to buy in Glasgow’s shops.


October 2007

02 October Claire Blackler on English wines Edinburgh
Clare Blackler runs the Case Studies Wine School and is an experienced wine educator. She is going to show a number of wines from England that will show the high standard of wines that can now be made in England as a result of climate change.

16 October Gonzalo Perez Glasgow
Gonzalo Perez is the Chief Winemaker for Anakena, who produce a variety of wines in Chile. Gonzalo will be talking to us about Chile and his winemaking experiences and will be taking us through a tasting of Anakena wines.

November 2007

06 November Simon Harrison wines of Peter Lehman Edinburgh
Peter Lehman makes a range of wines in Australia, from crisp, dry whites to rich and full-bodied reds. Lehman's top Syrah competes with Grange. Simon Harrison has stocked Peter Lehman wines for a number of years and is planning to show us the depth and quality of the range.

20 November David Mair on Roussillon Wines of France Glasgow
David Mair was one of the lucky ones to be invited on a tour of the Roussillon wines of France in October last year by the Roussillon winegrowers. As a thank you, he plans to talk about the different styles of wines that come from Roussillon and to show some of the wines that he tasted.

05 February Jason Busby of H & H Bancroft on Rosé wines Edinburgh
There has been a huge increase in the sales of Rosé wines in the UK over the past three years. In advance of Valentines Day, Jason Busby is intending to show a variety of different rosés from across the world that are distributed by H & H Bancroft in the UK.

19 February Bar 91 Food and Wine event Glasgow
Food and wine are incompatible! Tonight, we will be showing how different wines can match different foods. In the process, we hope to fill you both with food and with wine!

04 March Gin night with Blackwood Gin Edinburgh
In a repeat of their trip to Glasgow two years ago, Blackwood Gin are coming to Edinburgh to show the quality of their range and to allow everybody to compare and contrast their range with a number of other different, quality gins.

Tom Canavan is one of the few wine-writers who has pursued his career while remaining in Scotland. Tonight, he will talk about his experiences as a wine-writer based in Scotland and about his award-winning website, wine-pages.com, which is one of the most visited wine-related websites in the UK.

April 2008

01 April GVSN Imports Ltd on Some Unusual New Zealand Wines Edinburgh
Scotland buys the highest proportion of New Zealand wines in the UK. Douglas Williamson is coming to display his enthusiasm for New Zealand wines and to show us a number of new wines from the country, possibly including a new range of wines from Spy Valley (if they have arrived in the country in time!).

15 April DJM on the Wines of Roussillon Glasgow
Majestic Wines are largest wholesaler of wines to the retail trade in the UK, principally because of the range and the quality of the wines they have to offer. Tonight, Aidan West, the manager of the North Street, Glasgow is plannng to show us a variety of the wines that are in stock at present.

IWSSAnnual Dinner

This years Annual Dinner will be on the 9th February 2008, at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, 28 Queen Street, Edinburgh.

This is an opportunity for members and their guests to dress up and splash out on a very special evening of fantastic food and wine in elegant surroundings.

The Queen Street venue is the newest of the Scotch Malt Whisky Societies venues, it is a beautifully restored Georgian Town House on one of the capitals main thoroughfares with ornate, elegant and stylish rooms ranging over three floors reached by a sweeping stairway. Chef James Freeman carefully sources seasonal produce to produce exceptional Scottish cuisine with a contemporary French influence.

Each of the five courses will be accompanied by carefully selected and matched wines. This is not to be missed!!!!
Dress Code: Black Tie

IWSSWine Weekend

A Spring weekend of indulgence for our members and guests. This is a chance for us to get away from it all and concentrate on the finer things in life such as fantastic food, excellent wine and good company for the whole weekend.

This years Wine Weekend is from the 29th February to 2nd March 2008. It will be held at the Murraypark Hotel in Crieff, with access to the facilities at Crieff Hydro. Dinner will be at the Murraypark hotel on the Friday night and Saturday night we will be at the De’il’s Cauldron in Comrie. There is no theme for Friday night but the theme for Saturday morning's tasting shall be "Wines from Bordeaux". The four course dinner on Saturday night will progress this theme to involve matching food with Bordeaux wines.

Cost: Hotel - £120 (Per Person sharing), £149 (Single Occupancy)
includes 2 nights accommodation
with dinner (Friday night only) bed & breakfast.

Saturday Dinner - £50 Per Person

IWSSSummer Lunch

Our annual summer lunch is an informal affair where the theme is to bring your own bottle, or two. (2008 Dates and venue to be confirmed shortly).
